Support Surfaces (I, II, III)

Bailey Romaine's avatar Bailey Romaine

These three sculptures are tangential responses to the built environment of Grand Rapids; found fragments of the city become supports from which new structures emerge. A formal dynamic unfolds in which it becomes unclear what is artifact and what is support, what is preserved and what is emergent. These sculptures propose the built environment as a thing in flux and mine the generative potential of the provisional as an optimistic present.
