Silent Revolutions

This mixed media work seeks to look, highlight and interrogate the struggles of the Zimbabwean people since their attainment of independence from colonial rule, in 1980 to date. Zimbabwe is a nation borne out of a protracted liberation struggle. Its political independence brought about hope of prosperity, big dreams and a vision of nothing but a bright future for its citizens. Almost four decades later, all this hope, dreams and vision have been replaced by hopelessness and anguish, brought about by misgovernance, gross human rights abuse, political strife, corruption and economic decline. It is in this regard, that I try to highlight these personal struggles that ordinary Zimbabweans face today. I critically reflect and interrogate these numerous silent revolutions that are encountered on a daily basis. Therefore, this artwork seeks to create a platform for dialogue of the economical, socio-political, spiritual and transformation this has on them.
