"Floral Catacombs" is an three-panel (triptych) highly-textural painting created with a unique mixed media combination of encaustic wax, watermedia on different papers, R&F pigment stick and vinyl fencing. The paint is built up with layers of hot wax then scraped away with deep carvings and fine drawing techniques. Developed on industrial pegboard for an interesting transparent aesthetic and play on utilitarian properties vs. the delicate nature of plant matter, each piece is 24" x 48". This particular whimsical landscape focuses on lush, tropical plant growth dripping into the various underground layers of the past. Abstracting the intricacies of bulbs, seeds, blooms and roots above and below the soil.
