tumultum populi (noise of the people)

Kimberly Sutton's avatar Kimberly Sutton

tumultum populi explores the relationship between production and consumption of art by the public on a large scale through the lens of ArtPrize and Grand Rapids. 10 channels of audio documentation mapping the acoustic and architectural space of 50 Monroe document the production and installation process of works throughout the festival, then crescendos into waves of crowd noise at public exhibitions. This is accompanied by 8 channels of the sound environment of Grand Rapids physically activating environmental ephemera collected in the area as well as an intimate short piece for headphones.
