My work starts with the “home” and the dense suburban environment of my native New Jersey. The essence of intimacy and abstraction of the sociological home and its objects are what I debate. These are press molded forms made from modern throw pillows. I have been creating and subverting these sculptures that are inspired by the use of ceramic pillows from ancient china, with the belief that using pillows will bring health and inner peace within the body of its user. The lower ceramic piece is a mold from a property marker from New Jersey that separates property lines in suburban developments. I combine these two elements with fabric to link a sense of comfort and controlled atmosphere to the home in which one is designated and prescribed.
