Bent Sub Sandwich

This porcelain sculpture was originally created after my first solo show in NYC last fall, where I made ten chocolate cakes that looked like the iconic Subway sandwiches. This installation referenced their use of the term Sandwich Artist, and the larger trend in society for everyone to identify as an Artist. The original cake sculpture also touches on the role of contemporary craftsman in the hyper-consumption economy of the 21st century. Making it out of porcelain and acrylic paint furthers the humor of the object as it is using traditional craft materials to convey an object of extreme impermanence and a "health-conscious" food that is really just composed of artificial stabilizers, hormones, and fillers.
