The Mask: African God of Connectedness-Unity of Diversity

Boris Giulian's avatar Boris Giulian

The Unity is represented by a large abstract mask displaying the interconnected man, woman, animals, and plants. Central to it is a flower, symbol of universal love. This flower is embedded between the large overseeing compound eyes that represent the most numerous species on this planet-insects, with large butterfly on top center. The plants, insects and animals are mutually dependent on one another for survival. Serpents flex to form a large heart. All plants, animals and people here come together in a symphony of physical and spiritual energy, embodying the God-Connection of all living and loving creatures. From the series of "Alphabets Reinvented" this wood sculpture is dedicated to Africa and it's creations: diverse fauna, tribes, nations, languages, wood carving art, rhythms, and spirituality. Africa, (Ethiopia) believed to be the birthplace of Homo sapiens. The 33 main letters of the Ethiopian alphabet, the oldest in Africa, are disguised within the leopard’s spots. Words LOVE, AMORE and AMOUR are written in patterns on bodies of serpents and lizard. It took over 1000 hours to complete.
