Danse Solemn

"Danse Solemn" is a 4-minute, 29-second piece of music that I composed and arranged for symphony orchestra. Originally it was scored for a piano/cello duet (and was released in that form on CD: "The Heart Does Not Forget" by MacRAVEN, my duo with long-time Grand Rapids Symphony member, cellist Steve VanRavenswaay.) In March of this year (2016) I decided to fully orchestrate the piece, and it is this version that I am offering up to ArtPrize. The piece was begging to be somber, grim, and ceremonial as I was writing it. The word "solemn" kept coming to mind, and I was conjuring up visions of some sort of medieval ritualistic dance. Thus the title was born.
