Flint 1900

My artwork takes a scenario of social and environmental issues during the Flint water crisis. In my work, i constructed a seven piece soft sculpture and wearable art collection designed around a scenario, if a wealthy communities water source was contaminated with lead poisoning how different would the response have been. With my scenario in mind I redesigned women's and girl's summer dresses from the 1900's that were once associated with the wealthy and elite of society. I would redesign summer dresses from the 1900's to show how a generation would be affected by the water crisis. I would then dip dye and hand paint four Ivory colored dresses suggesting the water of Flint soaking into the dresses. The other three dresses would be designed in a chaotic fashion to suggest the panic of a community. This collection is not meant to be positive nor negative but a lesson for the future for all communities rich or poor to unite together in times of need.
