Tidal Fracture

Michael Schmidt's avatar Michael Schmidt

"Tidal Fracture" is the largest painting I've done with my current technique, and constitutes nearly two years of work. I do not have a meaning in mind when I paint, I let my unconscious mind handle that. I usually don't understand my paintings until several months, or in some cases years, after they're finished. "Tidal Fracture" shows a mechanical/building structure of some kind floating in orbit around a gas giant. The "tidal" or gravitational forces from the planet are tearing the structure apart, much as they would with any incoming asteroid or comet. The painting depicts the last moments of this structure as it disintegrates into particles. Find out more about my art here: https://www.patreon.com/MKSchmidt?ty=h&alert=1
