Bolder & Boulder

Jeffrey Breslow's avatar Jeffrey Breslow

My Abstract Sculptures begin with extraordinary boulders and stones, the shapes of which inspire my steel structures. All of which kindles a conversation between human creativity and the natural world. My sculptural forms cause the viewer to appreciate a common connection to nature and affirm the ability to shape our world in exceptional ways. Time and natural elements tame and color the steel in my work with beautiful and unpredictable patinas —a sustained interaction that imparts a sense of life to the materials. I’m inspired, on occasion, to add chrome or copper plate or to introduce a palate of color to the steel. My artistic intention is to inspire smiles and invite thoughts on the boundaries of art and the relationship between surface and density. My intimate familiarity with hard materials raises an unexpected question: can art be hard and solid, with great density and confrontational surfaces, and still evoke a sense of play and humour?
