Hope is the thing with feathers...

Nothing communicates hopelessness like a dead bird. Emily Dickinson understood this and communicated the loss of hope in her poem, Hope is the thing with feathers. This mixed media piece incorporates Emily Dickinson's poem written in calligraphy, a polaroid image of a flying pigeon, a polaroid transfer of me with pigeons flying in Saint Mark's Square and a collage of polaroid lifts of a dead pigeon in New York. Together, these communicate both the celebration and loss of hope.
