The intent of this piece is to create awareness of the destruction caused by burning fossil fuels and the need for a grass roots movement to seek alternative energy sources. This realistic wood sculpture is a 3D portrayal of what I like to call "a little ball of life." It features hand carved and painted Black Crappie, crayfish and other aquatic creatures. The diorama is mounted on top of a fifty five gallon oil drum (the most iconic symbol of the fossil fuel industry). Printed on the drum are the various methods of fossil fuel extraction and the organizations that are fighting the industry. The bottom represents an oil slick with another iconic symbol, the American Bald Eagle, struggling to survive.
