Be the Turning Point

Kent County Coalition

Using photographs of children and families we have worked with through the West MI foster care system, our art shines a light on how foster and adoptive families can be a turning point for children in care. By becoming a licensed foster parent and opening your home, you could be the turning point for an 8 year old who went to temporary shelter because he was considered too old by many other foster families. For a child whose parents just need a short-term opportunity to focus on their lives so they can gain stability and parenting skills in order to provide a safe environment for their child. For a child who has had four placements already and needs a patient and dedicated family who understands how trauma influences behavior. Each story is different for the 1,000 children in Kent County’s foster care system and the 13,000 children in care in Michigan, yet for each of these children you could be their turning point by opening up your home and your heart as a licensed foster parent.
