Chelsea

"Chelsea" is a piece with an emphasis on textured hair and the uniqueness and character of skin of a subject wearing no makeup. I find that the use of makeup can diminish the natural beauty of people by selling products meant to make us look like some form of a norm, whether these looks are established fashions or passing trends. Although makeup can be a great way to be creative with one's image, the emphasis of the use of makeup for daily use homogenizes and digitizes what it is to be beautiful. Each cosmetic product advertises using models with such similar features, and the colors that are used are serialized by number. In my view of beauty in general, I seek a balance of chaos with order. Curly hair also has its own chaotic beauty to it. There are so many hair types, and even a single person can have several hair types on their own. Hair and skin are textures that let me explore ideas like uniqueness and diversity with a rigorous technical aspect that develops my rendering skill.
