Nika

I loved drawing all my life, and the Siberian Tigers amazed me. 11ft from tip to tail. That was the length of my room, growing up. I based this pen drawing off a photo I took at the John Ball Zoo. She is Nika, the female tiger that completes the Zoo’s current trio of Amur tigers. She is 8 years old when she came there from Potter Park Zoo in Lansing. I took lots of pics of very happy tigers at the zoo. I chose this pic to draw from because she looks like she wants to say something. I know that is a little cliche, but i liked it. I was surprised to find out that the trio of tigers called Amur tigers could be also called Siberian tigers, and that tigers are named after the region of their habitat. I didn't know that. Their natural habitat is shrinking through deforestation, and poaching to name a few threats. So maybe my tiger drawing wants to say, " Stop poaching, stop destroying our natural habitat!"
