Golgotha (Lajitas, Texas)

Timothy Marc's avatar Timothy Marc

The title of this large scale (40" x 30") pencil drawing "Golgotha" comes from the historic site of Christ's crucifixion. The setting, however, is reimagined as an old west graveyard in the desolate Mexican border town of Lajitas, Texas. Three rock pile sepulchers rise out of the terrain. Each is topped with a steel cross. The three sit in a row, arrayed like the three crosses at the time of the crucifixion. The setting, landscape, and subject matter combine to create an image that matches its title "Golgotha"--the place of the skull.
