Artifacts From the Future

Necole Zayatz's avatar Necole Zayatz

I propose to exhibit a collection of futuristic multimedia artifacts. The artifacts grew out of my imagined post-apocalyptic future, a landscape made up primarily of electronic waste and plastic. The imagined landscape is an exaggeration of our current state. The artifacts are all intended to be handled by the viewer. Each artifact is accompanied by a short narrative describing the use of the artifact in the future. The following is one of the narratives: "Some of the future inhabitants of the earth find that they have an undying urge to constantly hold something in one of their hands. The origin of the need to hold a roughly rectangular object is unknown to them but calming and grounding. In the volatile conditions of the landscape in the future these inhabitants had a much shorter survival rate than the inhabitants that could function without a DownerCap. The DownerCap can be compared to having a mental crutch coupled with a physical handicap."
