From my experience as a courtroom artist and sitting on wooden benches in the courtroom, I am painting 10 MSU salvaged children's benches, and 2 adult antique benches. The benches represent the very private tears of mothers in the courtroom, this I witness. As I am drawing complicated situations, Images of simple things are in the back of my mind. The word court originally derived from the ancient concept of a courtyard, a public gathering space, so relevant to Artprize. My benches portray the innocence of life in general here in Michigan. And my salvaged benches are placed outside where they belong.
