Spending his early years at the family's cottage in Northern Michigan framed this author's love for nature, and zeroed in on his interest in outdoors stories. The Nick Adams Stories are about fly fishing in Northern Michigan and take Hemingway back in time to this place of his childhood. This painting was also featured in the magazine: Gray's Sporting Journal, for another story. But between you and me, it is the essence of Hemingway as a boy. He fished the same waters that my husband and our son fish today. I go with them and bring my paints.
