This is a test piece I made. It is 1/2 inch thick glass that is sandblasted in stages, or sand carved. It is blasted in several different depths, on both sides. A very laborous process, and it is also very easy to ruin the work. It has 22 caret gold and various bronze, brass, and silver treatments applied to it. It is lit from below by high intensity led's. As you move around the piece or simply move your head, the light and shapes change in relation to each other. I have had many offers from art galleries, where I have other work, and a number of people that want to buy it, but it has a small crack in it, so I will not sell it. As I said this is an example. The one I am working on for ArtPrize will be about 44 inches tall by 22 wide, not including the base. It will be 2 heavy sheets of crystal sand carved on both sides of each piece. It will be encased on all sides by a beautiful rosewood frame, and also lighted on all 4 sides by high intensity led's. The look of 2 sheets of crystal sand carved one behind the other, lighted, should be stunning. This piece will weigh about 160 lbs. This sand carved crystal especially very thick crystal, is rarely attempted because of cost and difficulty. I know that I would have something that has probably not been seen at art prize. I have been to hundreds of galleries all over the US and art shows, and I have never seen anything like this work that I do. I truly believe that I have something unique to contribute to ArtPrize. I would love to have a great venue to display my work for 2016. Thank you Robert Ness
