Tatters of Mama

When making a piece, I look to incorporate a connection between the subject and the material from which it is constructed. I created Tatters of Mama as a tribute to my mother, Darlene Craze, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, and my mother-in-law, Susan Milton, who passed away just 11 days later. In this piece, my mother’s image is constructed from the clothing she was wearing on the last day of her life, and the background is composed of my mother-in-law’s quilting materials. I view this work as an opportunity to allow the memories of these strong women to live on from where their lives left off. I would like to thank my husband, Timothy Milton, for always supporting me in my ventures, and my father-in-law, Donald Milton, for his excellent craftsmanship in the making of the display barrier posts. Wishing you all infinite happiness, ~Cindy A. (Craze) Milton
