Mary & Jane

Marsha Lucas's avatar Marsha Lucas

Mary & Jane is based on two of my favorite movie stars from the 1950's, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell, in their iconic movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Mary, on the left, feminine and alluring could also be considered childlike. Jane, on the right, also extremely voluptuous could sometimes be tomboyish and have a handsome appearance. These are my signature figures I started drawing 20 years ago and now made them life size, emphasizing on curve, bust, neck line and jaw line. Always fascinated with the human form, my interpretation of the 21st century woman has many layers. On the inside she is doubtful, worried and compassionate. On the outside she is strong, feminine, a little unfinished at times, but always puts herself back together. We are all "A Lady" no matter what our painful circumstances may be.
