Merritarium is a meticulously hand cut and painted paper world full of lush color and finely detailed figures. Presented in four shadow box frames, a narrative unfolds overnight and into the next day, where dozens of otherworld figures (all miniature floating heads with hands) tirelessly search for life out in the void. They scream into the nothingness with megaphones and then strain to listen for response. They peer out with telescopes and binoculars, and slingshot hand-typed letters in every direction. They work by candlelight at dark and never rest. In the last panel they've made contact with a lone figure who received one of their many letters. Naturally, they're conducting their first communication with a cup and string telephone, because that's the way it's done these days. // Merritarium is still in the drafting stage and will take many months to complete. You'll be able to watch it's progress over time on my instagram:
