Fridur (Peace)

Edward Riojas's avatar Edward Riojas

In a reprise of earlier works, "Fridur" explores the subject of peace amid possible war. Rich detail and vibrant color play off a bleak, winter landscape. The emergence of an incongruous crocus flower defies warring opponents, while the whole is bordered by words of an ancient prayer, the Collect for Peace, which has been translated into Icelandic. "Fridur" is the Icelandic word for peace.
