Hometown Rhythms

This colorful, energetic series is comprised of 5 -- 24" x 36" oil paintings on canvas, created from impromptu, full size crayon drawings done to music in real time on the banks of the Detroit River at the Detroit International Jazz Festival. The immediacy of the process lends these pieces their authenticity and natural rhythms. This work celebrates jazz compositions that delight our days and smooth our nights, whether we're lounging on a grassy riverbank, chatting in a café, or gazing out the window listening to a radio beside the bed. It's refreshing and comforting to feel some jazz in a visual form, too, coming from the "D" and the largest free jazz festival in the world.
