7 Deadly Sins in Candle Soot

Daniel Diehl's avatar Daniel Diehl

This is a seven piece project depicting my modern interpretation of the Seven Deadly Sins. The entire set was drawn using the black soot residue collected from the flames of a burning candle or oil lamp. The soot is applied to the paper using a special combination of tools including brushes, blending stumps, cotton swabs, needles and applicators of my own design. I wanted to put a new twist on an age old teaching. My work is meant to be appreciated for the technical aspects of it's design and overall impact of what can be created through non-traditional mediums such as candle soot. It was not created to be preachy, condescending or disrespectful in any form.
