Leila Neves' work is mostly a continuum of women portraits. "I interact with each individual portrait as an archetypal image which asks me to decipher and understand its narrative. Images have the power to deconstruct the mainstream concept of “normality and pathology” bringing to consciousness personal and collective wounds while creating the will to heal them both. I believe that consciousness is mediated through symbolic forms. Creating images is the way | found to connect my individual self with the collective. I have been working with acrylic, pastel and oil. This piece is the result of my late experiment with photography and digital medium. I photographed my original oil and pastel paintings and deconstructed their uniqueness by editing them via basic digital tools. The work consists of modifying the image until it disappears; becoming another image.
