Solar: A Harvest Dye Study

Team Solar

"Solar: A Harvest Dye Study" is an exploration of Michigan-harvested natural-dyes using a time-based technique called solar-dyeing, designed and coordinated by Grand Rapids fibers queens Elyse Welcher and Megan Roach. During the course of ArtPrize, jars of dye-materials and fibers will be brewing in the window, and daily samples of the dyeing fiber will be pulled from the jars, dried, and then woven using an on-site loom to show the gradient of achieved color throughout the course of the event. As the hosting venue, Team Parliament the Boutique will also be offering a schedule of programming and educational events during the course of ArtPrize 7, including Natural Dye and Weaving demonstrations, two weaving workshops, two fiber socials, and a Harvest Celebration Pancake Breakfast on the last day of ArtPrize to celebrate our harvest of color! Follow our notes and observations of the study via our Solar Notes Blog!
