The creative process is often driven by my need to find balance between chance, control, chaos, and authenticity. A random mark is made on a large blank canvas and immediately needs to be brought back to order, thus initiating a rhythm of action and reaction, creating a tension between chaos and order. Time and again, I find myself in conversation with the piece, often letting go, and allowing the work to inform itself. There is an alchemy that takes place within the piece when I am in a state of full awareness. Fearlessness or sitting with the unknown, intuition, a thirst for problem solving, as well as the spontaneity of exploration, move my creative process forward. When I step away from a piece and its elements resonate with harmony and balance, but still hold a creative tension, I trust it is complete. My work is often a manifestation of an inner exploration portrayed in form, texture, color, shape, signs or symbols that have specific meaning and are part of my life experience.
