It Takes a Family to Raze a Village

Terryl Sperlich's avatar Terryl Sperlich

This is a 3-D mosaic dragon family at the moment of hatching. The mother stands guard over her babies, proud and strong. The father flies over, protective and anticipating. Their firstborn has already taken flight to meet him, while another struggles to leave the shell. All the dragons have metal spines covered in wire mesh, then plaster bandages which is overlaid in iridescent glass. They all have hand blown glass eyes, Bronzclay talons and copper metal wings.Their mountaintop is wood and the eggs are clay. I have always loved dragons, both for their beauty and their mystery. I tried to capture this combination by showing their nurturing nature, but recognizing their fierceness at the same time.
