Up-close and personal

Heartside Art Collective

'Up-close and personal' is a collaborative entry of 14 artists from Heartside Gallery and Studio. The works featured are each artist's individual response to sharing a visual look into a personal story, self-portrait, highlight of life, or hardship that each has encountered. As artists from Heartside, we are quite often asked a series of questions by the general public about our housing and mental health status, about personal details, or about how we have found ourselves here. Over time those questions have had a tendency to place a lot of weight, stigma and stress on us as individuals who tend to not be afforded the luxury of privacy. This is our chance to share the details of our lives that WE want to tell; an opportunity for us to speak for ourselves and to be heard.
