Meteor

James Galbreath's avatar James Galbreath

The meteor is made from 4" pipe that was cut into 2" long pieces. It also consists of longer pieces of pipe in the center, that branch out to give the appearance of a crystal formation. At first I began designing this sculpture to be an interesting sphere. I later decided to make it look as though something was slowly pulling it apart. As the sculpture started coming together, it made me think of a meteor. And I finished out the sculpture with this vision. The base is painted black but I decided to keep the meteor itself unpainted. As it starts to rust and turn red, it will give the appearance of a meteor falling to earth. It also contains stainless steel pieces throughout that will give it depth and contrast and while adding to the burning appearance of the falling meteor.
