Zammara Cicada

Molly Burgess's avatar Molly Burgess

My piece is a soft sculpture of a male zammara cicada (an insect from the neotropics). His body is made from blue polyester and black chenille fabrics. I used blue, green, yellow, black and orange thread to hand embroider the designs on his body. His wings are a creamy, white sheer fabric sewn around a wire frame. I used both machine and hand embroidery to create the black and orange designs on the wings. His legs are wire, covered in a blue nylon coating covered in black and green embroidery.
