Smaug the Needle Felted Dragon

Introducing my Smaug the Dragon, needle felted from 100% wool roving. I hand felted this dragon using needles with notches on the end of them, which grab the scales on the wool and meshes/condenses/felts them together. His extremities are needle felted into the body, no sewing, and he is not built over an armature. I hand-dyed all the wool with acid dyes and made his teeth and claws from polymer clay. I did not set out to make the world's largest needle felted sculpture, but so far I have not found anything else on-line to this scale, pun intended. I guess the Guinness Book of World Records is next on the list!
