The sculpture incorporates visual elements of smooth curves from natural human form contrasted by geometric space, in order to serve as a visual metaphor for the duality of human nature and human experience. I intend to capture and materialize the idea of a perceived perfection of human existence compromised by (or really just complemented by, depends on one’s definition of ideal state of human existence) elements less pleasant and in ways disturbing through the visual presentation of the “Broken Mannequin” form. I also have always been fascinated by the idea of ancient constructions left over by lost civilizations, gigantic structures weathered in time but nonetheless retain some of their past glory. When the “Broken Mannequin” series was initially conceived I tried to picture individual sculpture as cathedral sized monuments scattered around large expanse of landscape, partially buried in sand and stone. I do not have the means to realize that image currently, but one day….
