When I began exploring modular origami I was immediately drawn to the challenge it presents and the joy that comes from successfully completing a pattern. Part of the challenge of origami is not the folding itself, but the time and persistence it requires. Many hours of folding must be done before individual pieces can be brought together to create the beautiful, finished whole object. During those hours of folding there is a constant urge to rush through the process to get to the end result. I must regularly remind myself to slow down and enjoy the beauty in each fold. This practice of enjoying the process could benefit all of us as societal pressures often lead us to focus too heavily on the end result. There is pressure to get the degree, buy the house, and close the deal. Practicing modular origami has helped me to slow down and focus more on the power of the process. The process represents the daily experiences we have as we move through life which should be valued for what they are, not just for the goals they help us achieve. I hope this piece will help others to reflect on the power of the process.
