Fabricated metal wall piece; depicting a "Hudson Class" J1-b Steam Locomotive, 4-6-4 wheel displacement. Hudson's where primarily developed by and for the New York Central system. I am submitting my piece the "Hudson J1-b, 4-6-4" in the 2015 Grand Rapids Art Prize, as a tribute to my grandfather and my father. My grandfather was a steam locomotive engineer for the New York Central system based out of Jackson, Michigan. He started as a fireman (Michigan Central) for twenty years before he became an engineer for twenty years. The photo at the throttle in the cab is my grandfather's retirement photo from 1956. He loved working the railroad on steam locomotives. My father was a avid model railroader for as long as I can remember. With that as my history and very old preserved blueprint of a Hudson J1-B 464, I fabricated the piece you see; inspired by the stories of my grandfather and all the trains down through the years...always with the New York Central system
