3D Infinite Dress

What is a 3D Infinite Dress? It is an interactive time-based piece of process art that consists of a manual knitting machine in the process of knitting a 3D seamless dress onto a full figured mannequin. Liz Bartlett is a 3D knit engineer and will have daily presentations throughout Art Prize where she will continue knitting the train of the dress but like many works of art, the dress will remain unfinished (or infinite). In the wake of the conscious consumer who craves locally made food, drink, and products that consume little to no waste, why does this energy not extend to fashion? Seamless 3D knitting is a process that allows no yarn to be wasted in the making of a garment and alleviates all post knit labor. No waste, no sewing, no cutting, and no finishing, just one single seamless and endless knit product. The 3D Infitie Dress will be a window into KNITit's capabilities. KNITit is a 3D knitting startup based out of Grand Rapids, MI specializing in 3D seamless compression garments for health care applications.
