God Bless Perma-Press. . . AMEN!

Blessed be those who ironed Dad’s shirts. Us Kids’ Saturday afternoon ritual with the ironing board possibly served as penance in the 50’s and 60’s for watching Howdy Doody and Mickey Mouse all morning. There was a cadence to Mom’s explicit instructions from spreading a white sheet below the board to the final pressing of collar and cuffs. We moved to the rhythm of the “damned,” eagerly awaiting salvation as the family’s dining room archway was ceremoniously adorned with the last starched, pressed white shirt of the day. My wooden triptych composition (which is currently in development) is in the shape of an iron depicting these childhood memories. It will be painted in iconic style as I sing praises to the arrival of permanent press!
