“Borders” is an attempt to encourage discussion about the issues of immigration, American borders, and the American dream and how our borders are perceived by those attempting to seek refuge here. America is a land of historical riches and endless opportunity. Yet the “American dream” is really a human dream. The desires for a better life, peace, education, and making an honest living – these desires are shared by all people. I intend for this piece to explore the concept of the American dream by questioning how it may be perceived by those outside of our borders, by those whose pursuit of that dream has already brought them across our borders, and by its citizens.
