Found is a selection of accumulated photographs made over a period of three years, highlighting the exceptional and whimsical in the everyday. During my daily walks with my dog, I scan my surroundings for opportunities to collaborate. Following the same path every day reveals the otherwise unseen, making the routine an exercise in presence. I document these moments with my iPhone, and “draw” on them in Photoshop using light, texture, and color pulled from my urban environment. The end results are images emerging from the inanimate terrain, transforming the ordinary world into something pictorially extraordinary, changing what was previously a leaf into a bison, a discarded newspaper into a hound. I approach these photographs as illustrations; I dip my pen into what nature provides-causing organic and inorganic materials to transform and delight. The results are both gritty and playful, and leave the viewer more aware of their own habitat. Found encourages us to keep our eyes open and recognize the potential menagerie around us.
