A large circular hole will be cut in the roof of a Rumsey Street house to create an oculus. Progressively larger holes will be cut in the attic and first floor ceilings, allowing a shaft of light to pass through the house and illuminate the floor. Welded angle irons, bolted to the first floor ceiling, will support a ceiling fan motor that drives a spinning sculpture. The sculpture, which hangs beneath the motor, will spin continuously. Centrifugal force throws the sculpture off-center while it spins and the linear elements of its construction cast web-like shadows on the walls and floor of the house. The patterning will change over the course of the day as the sun moves across the sky. Empty Vessels Make The Loudest Sound, a musical composition by Patrick Grant, will play within the installation.
