Into the Woods

"Into the Woods" is a single work created on 4 boxed panels capturing the passage of time from winter into early spring. These panels were completed in March of this year after initially starting them in the fall. Through the winter months it remained as a dark painting, however, I was inspired by the promise of spring by the warm light in March. On winter walks near my home I am able to observe houses through the woods, which are normally obscured during the summer months. Remnants of winter slowly give way to spring, and as the snow melts, textures of vegetation and earth become visible. The prospect I enjoy the most in painting is the chance of discovery. The ability of acrylics to create multiple layers, forming texture, depth and a history beneath the surface is what I find fascinating. Constantly altering my initial inspiration, I prefer to leave glimpses of early layers, as a reminder of my original thought. (Each panel is 20" x 60". The total space needed is 60" x 92")
