West By Southwest

In the painting West by Southwest, I look to Andrew Wyeth's use of the Kuerner farm house for the inspiration to amend his reality with my own to investigate the laconic views of Julian Barns whose view of memory advocates that : “Memory is identity. I have believed this since… oh, since I can remember. You are what you have done; what you have done is in your memory; what you remember defines who you are’ when you forget your life, you cease to be, even before death”. Adopting Barnes’ perception of memory, I have focused my artistic practice to analyze the core of our current American social identity through the lens of my personal heritage culminated through the conflicting and informative notions of historiography.
