The Colorful Black Dog

The Colorful Black Dog highlights the unique and desirable personalities of a dozen black shelter dogs who are now successful canine citizens. Dogs with dark colored coats in the US are adopted less often and euthanized more frequently than dogs of any other color. This is not because of their health, sociability or temperament-it's the color of their coat. Mythological Western archetypes contribute to our unconscious profiling- our views of good and evil, friend and foe. My goal is to bring awareness to our stereotyping, so that we choose companions based on their suitability, not on the color of their coat.
