In January 2013 I began painting my face everyday. Fascinated by the perceived limitations of genetically determined appearance (nature) and how so many of my friends took permanent (tattooing, piercing, plastic surgery, body modification) and temporary (cosmetics, wigs, hairstyle and color) measures to take ownership of and deliberately alter their appearance (nurture), I endeavored to push the boundaries of what one person could look like. Over the next 500 days, using only cosmetics, wigs, and a camera, I documented 470+ unique iterations of my "self," in in the process found that our "Nature" and our given features are merely a canvas, it is the "Nurture," the intentional choices we make about adornment or lack there of that determine our appearance.
