Traveling down the highway in my 1978 Lincoln Mark V, I become aware of everything, lines - horizon - boundaries, the completeness of my surroundings. Behind the wheel, I experience the greatest feeling of freedom following not only the road, but the cool geometry of the lines that divide the roads into lanes. At nightfall, the landscape and road gradually disappear, leaving the display of linear signs glowing in phosphorescent paint under the headlights. It is an awakening of oneness. Color is material. I use color in relation to the surface, actively guiding the viewer to the emotive. Color has both diverse and fluid conditions that alter according to its exposure to light. I choose colors intuitively, according to their volume, absorption, or reflection, their luminous qualities and how they will interact within the boundaries of the surface. The gradual curve in the aluminum is a threshold to experience the subtle, sometimes barely perceptible differences in shade.
