"FIELD TRIP TO FIRST PARK CHURCH" is a grouping of 13 welded steel humans depicted in ant like sculptures. The teacher Ms. Amy and chaperone Mr. Tim are real life educators within the metro Grand Rapids region. The 11 children, each named after our own grandchildren, have special features and attire included on the sculptures that is unique to their human side. This art piece was inspired by the countless teachers and chaperones who have taken so many children on similar adventurous field trips over the years to ArtPrize Grand Rapids. The young boys and girls are so much like typical youngsters, following teacher Ms. Amy's lead, while closely watched over by chaperone, Mr. Tim. So what if they are ant children, they too are special as is every child, be they real or whimsical. They come prepared to view and study the amazing art just ahead at First Park Congressional Church, back packs at hand filled with pens, paper and some even a camera or cell phone to document their special field trip. Trailing in the rear a wagon pulled by Mr. Tim and loaded with lunch boxes, as we all know, children are always hungry, especially ants!
