Eternal Waking

A few years ago, I was struck with a strange illness that no doctor could definitively diagnose. I was prescribed a medicine that gave me an adverse reaction of full-body hives. During this period I had several vivid dreams - including a horrific nightmare which became the basis for my art piece. In my dream, I woke up in the middle of the night - and I could barely see anything, except for what was being lit by the moonlight. I felt a small itch on my forearm, and began to scratch at it. I noticed that a small, budding flower was sticking out of my arm. I looked at it in a daze - it was both beautiful and bizarre. Suddenly, the flower started to grow rapidly, shooting up my arm. In a panic, I quickly ripped it out, and a literal chunk of my arm came out with it, leaving a large void. My body had turned to fragile, crumbling dirt. I looked into the hole I had created, still dimly lit by moonlight, and could see tiny buds multiplying…
